Sheriff Wesley Holt is a graduate of South Greene High School and Walters State Community College with an associate of science (AS) degree in Criminal Justice Technology/Law Enforcement. Sheriff Holt began his law enforcement career at the Greene County Sheriff’s Department in 1989 working in the corrections division. He served as a corrections officer, training officer, and corrections sergeant during his tenure in the jail.

In 1993, Sheriff Holt transferred to the patrol division and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy at Donelson. Over his years of service, he has served as a patrol deputy, sergeant, lieutenant, and patrol captain.  In 2018, he ran for and was elected sheriff.  He was re-elected as sheriff in 2022 where he continues to serve today. This is his thirty fifth year in law enforcement serving Greene County.

Sheriff Holt believes in giving back to the community.  This is shown in his many roles as a volunteer in various organizations. He is a member of the St. James Vol. Fire Dept. where he has served in various offices, including 10 years as Chief. In the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad he has served 25 years, holding various offices of that organization. He is also a member of the Greene County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments where he has held many officer roles over the years and is now serving as Treasurer.

Sheriff Holt is married to Michelle Tweed Holt and they have two daughters: Gabrielle & Victoria. He is a member of the Mt. Olivet Church of Christ.  In his spare time, he likes to work on the 102-acre family farm tending to the beef cattle and enjoying his time away from the office.

"I am honored to serve Greene County as your sheriff. I have made this my career to serve the public and my door is always open to the citizens to make our county a safe place to work and live."
